Committee’s description:
The General Assembly is the organ in the United Nations integrated by 193 United Nations as member states. The main purpose of the General Assembly is to deliberate, approve and make policies in order to encounter resolution for the worldwide issues. Their meetings take place by sessions from September to December. It also gives further recommendations and approve resolutions to other organs of the UN, except Security Council, which alike the General Assembly have autonomy on their resolutions.
Introduction and description of the topic:
Nuclear, biological, chemical and radiological weapons are the main types of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) that have the capacity to cause the death and destruction of a whole nation. Due to the disastrous consequences of these WMD, their use has been a current concern for all the national security of countries around the world. But the problem is that during the last century, technology has developed new ways in which terrorist groups can acquire or build weapons of mass destruction (WMD) with greater facility. So, this topic will analyze the different reasons that draw terrorist to obtain or construct these WMD and to establish certain measures that will prevent directly the use of these weapons. At the same time, this will guarantee the welfare of society around the world.
History of the Topic:
The most common weapons of mass destruction are nuclear, radiological, chemical and biological. These weapons are illegal and used for the radiological damage. Chemical weapons are the most dangerous and frequently even given the fact that terrorists are willing to commit a suicide attack. The radiological and biological weapons are easily accessible. The use of weapons of mass destruction was employed within the scope of the Second World War; however, the use of them by terrorists is a little ambiguous because of their illegal origins.
Point of view:
The UN is looking forward to eliminate the use of weapons of mass destruction in order to protect the citizens of each one of the countries in the world and achieve peace.
Even thought nuclear weapons have only been used twice in the entire history, their catastrophic effect are still damaging generations, that is why this is one of the main issues that the organization has tried to solve since its very beginnings.
Current Situation:
This topic has greatly affected the international community. It has caused serious altercations, leaving the victims helpless. These events, previously mentioned, related to the use of weapons of mass destruction, has had a great impact on the world. People have become more aware on this and also because of this concern; there have been various proposals and solutions in order to prevent the catastrophes that misuse of these weapons can cause.
Conclusion:
Terrorist groups actions affect in an important way the international community; mainly because of the capacity to get weapons that result in a massive destruction and murdering in various citizens. Even though not all the different kinds of weapons of mass destruction are used or are entirely used they create damages worldwide. The committee is expecting to find a resolution for the specific world issue in a collaborative and peaceful way between the different countries to avoid wars and conflicts.
